How to avoid skin damage in the sun?

  • Use cream for the face or dry skin, and lotion for the body, spray for oily/combination skin

  • Apply sun protection generously for maximum effect.

  • Sun-screens with good skin care activity substitute for your normal day cream

  • Do not stay too long in the sun, even while using a sunscreen product

  • Avoid the most aggressive UV radiation between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. by staying in the shade

  • Take along gat cap or hat for your head, sun-glasses, and your sun-screen if you stay out in the sun for more than 2 h

  • Go into the shade when the protection time your sun-screen gave you runs out (see table)

  • Re-apply the sunscreen every 90 minutes to maintain its full protection effect

  • Re-apply frequently to maintain protection, especially after perspiring, swimming, showering or towelling.

  • An overcast sky or shade do not protect from sunburn - use sun protection

  • If you had sunburn the day before, you should avoid the sun for at least one day or stay in the shade

  • Over-exposure to the sun is a serious health threat

  • Certain drugs have a photosensitising effect. Ask for medical advice

  • Apply sunscreen also on cloudy days when you stay in the open for a longer time. UV passes even through clouds.

  • Apply sun screen even if you stay inside when you sit close to a window or in your car for a longer time on a sunny day. Some UV pases even through glass
